What to Expect

The Faroes is one of those places where the more work you put in, the bigger the rewards. This promises to be one amazing tour. During our time on the Faroes, sunrise will be around 5.15am and sunset around 9.30pm, This means with sunrise and sunset so early and late there will be plenty of time for shooting but also plenty of downtime too. I arrive to Vágar airport at 2pm on April 29th. Please be at the airport no later than 4pm. We will then make our way to our hotel, get settled in and shoot sunset on the same evening. The tour will end on May 3rd at 1pm and you will be returned back to the airport for your return flight. Should the weather allow, we will shoot sunrise on our final morning.

We will spend our entire stay at Hotel Hafnia in the capital Tórshavn. All rooms are single occupancy and breakfast is included in the booking. Because we’re in the capital there are plenty of places to eat and drink, there’s even an Irish bar.

There is one short ferry journey on this trip, which is included in the price.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. Having been to the Faroes many times I find keeping things flexible is the best option and gives us the best chance of being in the right place at the right time.

You will be transported throughout the tour in a comfortable, spacious 9 seater bus starting and finishing at Vágar airport.

Please be at Vágar airport no later than 4pm on April 29th.

The tour will end at 1pm on May 3rd when we arrive back to Vágar airport.

The weather in the Faroes in April can be anything from mild, calm weather to cold, snowy weather, so prep is key! Shooting in the Faroe Islands can be very tough as it is prone to strong winds and sideways rain. Given the challenges of shooting here, it is definitely the most enjoyable place I have ever shot. Warm clothes and waterproofs are a must here, as temperatures can drop suddenly when the sun goes down. Should we get any nights of clear skies, I will be keeping close tabs on the solar activity for potential shooting of the Northern Lights.

Drangarnir arch
(90 minutes hike each way in windy weather, if the weather is favourable we will be brought out on a boat and collected)

(40 minute easy walk each way)
Witches Finger
Funningur (20 minutes hike)
Kallur Lighthouse (30 mins easy hike)

Also some absolute personal favourites I have found while I was there…

Fitness level
This trip requires a decent level of fitness, a couple of locations on this tour requires a 60-90 minutes walk/hike along flat ground with little incline.

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripodpolariser & ND filters.
