What to Expect

The Faroes is one of the most wildest and rugged places I have ever been. Unlike many other places, the Faroe Islands really makes you put in that extra effort to get “the shot”, while it could have torrential rain at one part of the Islands, you could travel 30 minutes to the next location and it wouldn’t have a hint of rain. From the 1st-6th of October sunrise is 7.30am and sunset 7pm, this will give us a full days uninterupted shooting (except food and toilet stops) should the weather allow. There is one very short ferry trip on this trip. I arrive at 7.50pm on the 1st of October, from the next morning we will shoot sunrise to sunset on the 2nd,3rd,4th & 5th, this will give us 4 full days shooting, sunrise to sunset. We will finsih up on the 6th of October at the airport at 7am. My flight back is at 8.20am. This will be a trip you will never forget!

We will spend our entire stay in a beautiful, spacious self catering house in Vagar, which is centrally located to most places we will be shooting and the airport. The house has 2 single rooms and 2 twin room. The twin rooms, will be for sharing, and for whoever doesn’t mind that, they will get a €100 discount off the full trip. The other two rooms will be for single occupancy and the price is as stated. First come, first served on the single occupancy rooms. Please state in the note section of booking, which option you would like.

As the accommodation is self catering, we will make our own food alomg the way, which is better as we will have no set itinerary but also cheaper. There is two very good supermarkets very close by also.

Included in the house is:
Wifi, ironing facilities, towels, two bathroom, cable tv, flat-screen tv, wash machine, dryer, good heating, hot water and a laptop workspace.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. I have just returned from spending one week on the Faroe Islands and we took one day at a time as we were keeping tabs on the weather forecast and it worked a treat. We got some epic conditions including the most amazing mood I have ever photographed and a couple of spectacular sunsets. Below is a list of just some of the places we will be visiting while we are on the Faroes…

Transportation

You will be transported throughout the tour in a comfortable, spacious 9 seater bus starting and finishing at Vagar airport.

Weather

The weather in the Faroes in October can be anything from mild, calm weather to cold, snowy weather, so prep is key! Shooting in the Faroe Islands can be very tough as it is prone to strong winds and sideways rain. Given the challenges of shooting here, it is definitely the most enjoyable place I have ever shot. Warm clothes and waterproofs are a must here, as temperatures can drop suddenly when the sun goes down. Should we get any nights of clear skies, I will be keeping close tabs on the solar activity for potential shooting of the Northern Lights.

Locations

Gasadalur
Drangarnir arch
(90 minutes hike each way in windy weather, if the weather is favourable, we will be brought out on a boat and collected)

Trælanípan
(40 minute easy walk each way)
Witches Finger
Fossá
Tjørnuvik
Funningur (20 minutes hike)
Kallur Lighthouse (30 mins easy hike)

Also some absolute personal favourites I have found while I was there…

Fitness level
This trip requires a decent level of fitness, a couple of locations on this tour requires a 60-90 minutes walk/hike along flat ground with little incline.
