What to Expect

The Faroes is one of the most wildest and rugged places I have ever been. Unlike many other places, the Faroe Islands really makes you put in that extra effort to get “the shot”, while it could have torrential rain at one part of the Islands, you could travel 30 minutes to the next location and it wouldn’t have a hint of rain. From September 23rd-27th sunrise is 7.15am and sunset 7.20pm, this will give us so much shooting time over the course of the trip. Given the days are so long it will also allow for an hour or two break each day in between sunrise and sunset.

We will spend our entire stay at Hotel Vágar, which is based just a couple of minutes drive from the airport. Each participant will have their own room with breakfast included. All rooms come with wifi, private bathroom, towels, flat screen and tea/coffee making facilities etc.

I arrive at 2pm on September 23rd, please arrive no later than 3.30pm on the 23rd to Vágar airport. Once we’ve checked in to the Hotel, we will have plenty of time to shoot sunset that same evening. From there will we have full day shoots including sunrises and sunsets on the 24th, 25th, 26th and sunrise on the 27th. I will be arriving back at the airport for the end of the trip at 2pm on the 27th.

*Should you arrive a day or two early or are leaving a day or two later after me and need me to book extra nights in the hotel at an extra cost, please send me an email here.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. I have just returned from spending one week on the Faroe Islands and we took one day at a time as we were keeping tabs on the weather forecast and it worked a treat. We got some epic conditions including the most amazing mood I have ever photographed and a couple of spectacular sunsets. Below is a list of just some of the places we will be visiting while we are on the Faroes…

You will be transported throughout the tour in a comfortable, spacious 9 seater bus starting and finishing at Vagar airport.

Please be at Vágar Airport no later than 3.30pm on the 23rd of September. If you will be arriving later, please let me know in advance here

The weather in the Faroes in September can be anything from mild, calm weather to cold & windy weather, so prep is key! Shooting in the Faroe Islands can be very tough as it is prone to strong winds and sideways rain. Given the challenges of shooting here, it is definitely the most enjoyable place I have ever shot. Warm clothes and waterproofs are a must here, as temperatures can drop suddenly when the sun goes down. Should we get any nights of clear skies, I will be keeping close tabs on the solar activity for potential shooting of the Northern Lights.

Drangarnir Arch
(90 minutes hike each way in windy weather, if the weather is favourable, we will be brought out on a boat and collected)

Trælanípan (40 minute easy walk each way)
Witches Finger
Funningur (20 minutes hike)
Kallur Lighthouse (30 mins easy hike)

Fitness level
This trip requires a decent level of fitness.

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripodpolariser & ND filters.
