What to Expect

Join us on one of the most popular tours on our calendar. This first part of the tour on the West will consist of 2 nights shared self catering accommodation in the centre of Grundarfjordur, right beside the famous Kirkjufell mountain. The house has four bedrooms, (bedroom one x 2 single beds, bedroom two x 1 bed, bedroom three x 1 bed and bedroom three x 1 king size bed). The house has three bedrooms for single occupancy and one room with two single beds for sharing with myself (€150 less). The house is also very spacious and comes with a fully fitted kitchen, living room with TV, wifi etc… it really has everything including EPIC views of Kirkjufell Mountain

The second part of this trip will consist of 3 nights single occupancy for everyone, based on the South coast of Iceland in the small town of Vík. Each person will get their own cabin that comes fully equipped with double bed, private bathroom, linen, a kitchenette, flat screen tv, couch and kettle. These cabins are extremely cosy and warm.

Please be at Keflavik international airport no later than 2.30pm on the 27th of June 2022. The tour will end at 7am on July 2nd at Keflavik international airport.

Its called midnight sun because of the extremely late sunsets and very early sunrises. Sunset this time of year is 12.30am and sunrise 2.45am. Because there is less than 3 hours between these times it means the sun doesnt dip far below the horizon before rising again. This means, should we get some nice light it has the potential to last for hours.

You will be transported throughout the tour in a comfortable, spacious 9 seater bus starting and finishing at Reykjavik airport.

Because the tour is limited to just 4 people, this ensures maximum comfort and space for yourself and all luggage.

Weather in Iceland can be very unpredictable so packing smart is essential, we could get anything from mild calm weather with the most amazing sunrises and sunsets to storm force winds and rain in the summer. This adds to the fun of being in Iceland, having been to Iceland I have seen all types of weather and no matter what the conidtions, Iceland always has something amazing to offer in terms of photography. Having got more experience in studying Icelandic weather charts everytime I visit Iceland I am confident that should the weather allow I will have us in the right places at the right times, when it comes to getting the best light during the day. I will also be monotoring the weather and stats closely to get you all in the best possible position to shoot amazing midnight sun colours. It doesnt get dark in Iceland this time of year so you may need to bring a sleeping mask as you will be sleeping when its bright.

Below is a list of just some of the places we will be visiting while we are in Iceland…

Black church
Hellnar church
Skarosvik beach
Ingjaldsholskirkja church

Also some personal favourites I have found while I have been there…

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle with f2.8 minimum aperture for nights sky photography and zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes, cheap crampons,  wellies, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)

If you need some loan filters for the workshop please let me know well in advance of the trip here
