What to Expect
September 18th-20th
The first two nights will be spent close to the town of Vík on the South coast. There are so many places to shoot around here, especially popular spots but also plenty of lesser known spots too. We will be staying in beautiful cottages beisde the VIK hotel. Each perosn will have their own cabin with a large double bed, priavte bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. We can also get breakfast at the hotel next door for an extra cost. This will depend on our shooting locations for sunrise. There is plenty of cafes and restaurants to eat in VIK.
September 20th-22nd
We will spend the next two nights in a guesthouse in the town of Hofn, on the South East of Iceland. Here, each person will have their own room. There is shared bathrooms and cooking facilities also in the guesthouse. I have stayed in this guesthouse before and its very clean, cosy and spacious. From here we will be right beside the iconic Vestrahorn mountain and more! Hofn has some really nice restaurants for eating out in the evenings also.
September 22nd-23rd
On our last night, we will make our way back the village of Hella. This will be our last night and we will aim to get back here in good time to shoot sunset at Haifoss in the Icelandic Highlands on our last evening. From Hella we are only 1 hour and 45 minutes from Keflavik Airport and we will aim to be at the airport for 6am on the 23rd. My flight home to Ireland is 7.30am.
All accommodations have us well placed to shoot the Northern Lights in some iconic locations. So be prepared, if the weather allows, to chase the Northern Lights every night.
I will arrive to Keflavik Airport at 2pm on September 18th, Please arrive no later than 3pm. We will be back at Keflavik airport at 6am on September 23rd. I have a new Land Rover Defender booked for this trip so this will give us maximum space, comfort and confidence going into the Highlands.
There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. In my experience of spending time in Iceland, we always took it one day at a time as we were keeping tabs on the weather forecast and it worked a treat. We got some great conditions including amazing sunrises and sunsets most days aswell as amazing nights of jaw dropping northern light displays.
