What to Expect

We will spend our entire stay in a spacious, clean and cosy B&B (Breakfast not included). We will have the entire place to ourselves with use of a small kitchenette to have cereals, toast, tea and coffee in the mornings. There will be 4 rooms for single occupancy, with en suite, TV, tea/coffee making facilities and plenty of space. We also have one space for sharing with myself in a twin room, male only. The price for sharing with myself is €150 less. The B&B is situated in the centre of Portree, the main town of the Isle of Skye, close to all shops, cafes and pubs.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. I have found in the past  that this strategy has worked very well in our favour on many occasions.

We will start and finish the Photo Tour at Glasgow airport. Please be at Glasgow airport no later than 9am on February 23rd 2022, from there you will join me in a spacious 9 seater bus for the remainder of the trip. From there we will travel to Skye via Glencoe, getting a few hours shooting here, possibly even sunset depending on conditions. Once we get to Skye we will spend all four nights here at the same accommodation. On Sunday the 27th we will shoot sunrise then make our way back to Glasgow Airport via Glencoe and get there for about 7pm, where the tour will finish.

Fitness level
This trip requires a moderate fitness level, The Old Man of Storr is a 45 minute hike and The Fairy Pools are a 30 minute walk.

Please Note: Should Covid 19 restrictions prevent us from running this photo tour, we will reschedule or you will ne issued with an online voucher for the full amount paid, including deposit for use on any workshop or tour in the future.

Transportation

You will be transported throughout the tour in a comfortable, spacious 9 seater bus starting and finishing at Glasgow airport.

Please be at Glasgow airport no later than 9am on Wednesday 23rd February 2022. We will finish the tour, also at Glasgow airport at 7pm on Sunday 27th February 2022

Weather

The weather on the Isle of Skye in February will no doubt be dramatic, we may even have SNOW!!! Weather permitting we will get sunrises (sunrise 7.30am) and sunsets (susnet 5.45pm) on all days we spend on the Isle of Skye. By night, should weather favour us we are just a stones throw from epic dark skies to shoot Astro…and if we’re really lucky, THE NORTHERN LIGHTS!!!

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle and zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes, cheap crampons,  wellies, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)

If you need some loan filters for the workshop please let me know well in advance of the trip here

Included/Not Included

We include 4 nights (5 full days shooting) accommodation, transportation throughout the workshop, full tuition, amazing locations and great craic.

Why book with us?

YES YES, The rumours are true… We do have a knack of getting our groups in the right place at the right time, ensuring you capture a truly memorable shot you can cherish for the rest of your life. To us, capturing “the shot” is important but just as important is to enjoy the experience, when we get to a location take a minute to breath in the fresh air and really appreciate the views around us.

Not convinced?

When you book a trip with us, you get to sit back and relax. while we do all the driving. For our Irish workshops we have our very own Volkswagen 9 seater shuttle bus. The bus is a long wheel base, full air conditioned, extremely spacious and has ample USB charging points. On our tours abroad we also mostly book 9 seater buses and with groups no bigger than 5 or 6, ensures plenty of space and comfort!

Thanks to our amazing sponsors Whelan Cameras, 53 Degrees North & Formatt Hitech Camera Filters we have spare equipment like tripods, gore-tex jackets and pants and plenty of spare filter holders, filters and even shower caps to keep the camera dry during showers.
