What to Expect

Join us for a week of photography paradise on the incerdible Lofoten Islands, Norway. This tour will consist of 6 nights, self catering accommodation, right in the heart of the much loved and picturesque village of Hamnoy in the famous red cabins. I will have two cabins booked, one 2 bedroom and one 3 bedroom. There will be 4 rooms for single occupancy and one for sharing with myself (Male only). These cabins are at the heart of everything Lofoten has to offer, all you need do is step outside the door and be greeted by some of the best photo compositions in the world.

Given that the cabins are self catering, they come fully equipped with brilliant cooking facilities, so we can either make food as we go or eat out in local restaurants, we can decide this when we start the tour. There is plenty of shops and supermarket nearby also.

With sunrise at 9am and sunset at 2.30pm, due to the low angle of the sun in Winter months, this gives us a chance to shoot beautiful blue hour scenes, the late sunrise also means no 4am or 5am starts. After sunset, it also means we have plenty of time before full darkness to eat and prepare ourselves for what will hopefully be some amazing nights chasing the Northern Lights.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. In my experience of spending time on the Lofoten Islands, we always took it one day at a time as we were keeping tabs on the weather forecast and it worked a treat. We got some great conditions including amazing sunrises and sunsets most days aswell   nights of jaw dropping northern light displays.

You will be transported throughout the tour in a comfortable, spacious 9 seater bus starting and finishing at Lekenes or Bodo airport, this will depend on what’s flights are available, I will keep everyone informed about these.

Sunrise 9.05am

Sunset 2.35pm

The weather in Lofoten tends to hang around the freezing mark in November. From my two previous trip to Lofoten, we got the most amazing light during the day and then to top it all off, nearly every night we were out shooting the Northern lights with some EPIC displays. It is very possible we will experience some clear night skies so there is a high chance of some Northern lights with some amazing foreground interest. This promises to be an amazing week of photography in a truly picture perfect part of the world.

Also some personal favourites I have found while I was there…

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripodpolariser & ND filters.
