What to Expect

For my very first New Zealand Photo Tour, I am thrilled to be teaming up with renowned New Zealand based Photographer William Patino. In my opinion William is the best landscape photographer in NZ. With William with us from start to finish I know we are destined to get some epic conditions and images over the course of the workshop.

This 9 day, 8 night tour will start 9am on September 5th at 9am at the Queenstown Mercure Hotel. It will also end here at 5pm on September 13th. We recommend arriving at least one day prior to the workshop starting. This hotel is just 15 minutes from Queenstown airport.

Our 8 nights will consist of twin share accommodation at 4 star hotels. Twin sharing allows us to make spontaneous booking at the last minute while chasing the light instead of chasing locations for the sake of it. Your going half way around the world, we want to give ourselves the best chances of getting you all in the best locations when they have the best light. We will not rule out single occupancy rooms, there is every chance there may be some available but no guarantees. If there is single occupancy rooms available at different stages during the workshop, it may cost a little extra. There will be no mixed sharing.

We will also have the option to get an unforgettable helicopter flight (2 helicopters between us). This flight will be to access a remote mountain location above the fjords. it will give us an opportunity to get some aerial shots of the mountains and a sunset shoot from a mountain peek. This will be an extra cost of €400 per person and we can decide during the workshop if we/you want to do it or not, depending on weather.

Remaining balance details and T&Cs can be found here

Please Note: Should Covid 19 restrictions prevent us from running this photo tour, we will be rescheduling this workshop to early 2023.

Transportation

You can sit back and relax for the full duration of the workshop as we transport you in a 12-seater spacious van.

This workshop is limited to just 6 people which ensures maximum comfort throughout the workshop

Weather

New Zealand in September is a fantastic time to visit with temperatures ranging from 3c to 17c.

Spring is an ideal time for photography as theres plenty of sunshine, rain and snow melt. This ensures plenty of mood and fast flowing rivers as well as snow capped mountains.

Locations
  • Mount Cook and the Mount Cook National Park – Tasman Lake, Hooker Lake, Mt Sefton, Mt Cook – classic glacial lakes with views of the tallest peaks, often ice in the lakes + rivers
  • Lake Ohau and the Ben Ohau range – glacial lake with close mountains, often has waves
  • Twizel – mountainside town with reflective lakes and easy access to other locations to adapt to weather
  • Tekapo – glacial lake with mountain surrounds
  • Milford Sound and the Fiordland National Park – waterfalls, mountains, rivers, valleys, lush beech forests with cascades – works well in wet weather
  • The rugged west coast with amazing seascape and alpine views, from sea to summit (weather dependent)
  • Queenstown and Glenorchy – mountainside villages framed by alpine views, rivers and lakes.
Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle and zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200 and/or 100-400) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes, cheap crampons,  wellies, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)

Why book with us?

YES YES, The rumours are true… We do have a knack of getting our groups in the right place at the right time, ensuring you capture a truly memorable shot you can cherish for the rest of your life. To us, capturing “the shot” is important but just as important is to enjoy the experience, when we get to a location take a minute to breath in the fresh air and really appreciate the views around us.

Not convinced?

When you book a trip with us, you get to sit back and relax. while we do all the driving. For our Irish workshops we have our very own Volkswagen 9 seater shuttle bus. The bus is a long wheel base, full air conditioned, extremely spacious and has ample USB charging points. On our tours abroad we also mostly book 9 seater buses and with groups no bigger than 5 or 6, ensures plenty of space and comfort!
