What to Expect

Join us on one of our best and favourite places to run a photo tour, The Dolomites in North East Italy. This tour will consist of 5 nights single occupancy hotel stay. 3 nights in the picturesque town of Cortina and 2 nights in Ortisei. These locations will have us in prime positions for shooting the best places the Dolomites have to offer. Our accommodation in Cortina will have breakfast included and in Ortisei we will have a couple of little breakfast surprises in stunning locations, I will say no more.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. I have just returned from spending one week in The Dolomites and we took one day at a time as we were keeping tabs on the weather forecast and it worked a treat. We got some epic conditions including amazing sunrises and sunsets everyday.

We will fly into either Venice Marco Polo or Venice Treviso airport, depending on flight schedules, which will hopefully be released in the coming months.

Fitness level
This trip requires no great fitness level, although one of our locations, Tre Cime, does have a one hour each way hike along a mountain path to our shooting location for the 3 peaks of Tri Cime. We will also have a 30 minute each way hike to another stunning mountain vista close to Tri Cime. All other places are within easy walking distance of our bus.

Transportation

You will be transported throughout the tour in a comfortable, spacious 9 seater bus starting and finishing at Treviso airport or Venice Marco Polo airport.

Weather

The weather in The Dolomites in Autumn can be anything from mild, calm weather to cold, snowy weather, so prep is key! Warm clothes are a must here, as temperatures can drop suddenly when the sun goes down. It is also very possible we will experience some clear night skies so there is a good chance of some astrophotography in some of the worlds darkest skies whilst witnessing the Milky Way in all its glory. A hat, scarf and gloves wouldn’t be a bad idea either just to be sure. This promises to be an amazing week of photography in a truly picture perfect part of the world. We hope to see you there…

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle with f2.8 minimum aperture for nights sky photography and zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes, cheap crampons,  wellies, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)

If you need some loan filters for the workshop please let me know well in advance of the trip here

Why book with us?

YES YES, The rumours are true… We do have a knack of getting our groups in the right place at the right time, ensuring you capture a truly memorable shot you can cherish for the rest of your life. To us, capturing “the shot” is important but just as important is to enjoy the experience, when we get to a location take a minute to breath in the fresh air and really appreciate the views around us.

When you book a trip with us, you get to sit back and relax. while we do all the driving. For our Irish workshops we have our very own Volkswagen 9 seater shuttle bus. The bus is a long wheel base, full air conditioned, extremely spacious and has ample USB charging points. On our tours abroad we also mostly book 9 seater buses and with groups no bigger than 5 or 6, ensures plenty of space and comfort!
