What to Expect

Join us in the Wicklow Mountains National Park for what promises to be a great days shooting with like minded people.

This workshops will run from 3.30am (Sunrise) until 1pm. We wont decide our sunrise location until the morning of the workshop, this ensures best chances to be flexible and get the best possible light.

We will meet to start the workshop at 3.30am at the Red Cow Luas Stop, where you can  join me in my luxury 9 seater mini bus for the duration of the workshop. Sunrise is at 5am, meeting at 3.30am gives us the best chance possible to get to where we want to be for the best light at sunrise. We will finish up at 1pm and I will return you to your cars in the Red Cow.  This workshop will be limited to just 4 participants.

Alternatively you can meet us here and follow along in your own car for the duration of the workshop.

After sunrise, we will head for the Glenmalure Lodge where we will grab some breakfast and continue the workshop after.

Please Note: Should Covid19 prevent this workshop from going ahead, we will reschedule or you will be issued with an online voucher for the full amount paid, to be used on any future workshop, with no expiry date.

Transportation

Once you make your way to the Red Cow Luas Stop, you will not have to drive for the rest of the workshop as we take you around in our fully insured and spacious luxury 9 seater mini bus, which comes fully air-conditioned, with power points for charging all phones and cameras.

Alternatively, you can meet us here and if you prefer, follow along in your own car for the duration of the workshop.

Weather

Sunrise: 5am

Ireland isn’t exactly known for its sunny weather, but what it can be known for is the amazing light, stormy seas and moody clouds. No matter what the weather, you can be sure we are in the right part of the country to capture what ever mood is thrown at us. As the weather is so unpredictable in Ireland its impossible to set out a definite itinerary until we actually start the workshop, I will however be keeping a very very close eye on the weather throughout the day to make sure I get you in the right place, at the right time, for the right light.

Locations

Lough Tay
Glenmalure Valley
Glendalough
Ballinastoe woods
Wicklow Lighthouse
Black castle

And some hidden gems along the way….

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle and zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes, cheap crampons,  wellies, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)
