What to Expect

We will spend our 2 nights of the workshop in the beautiful An Chúirt Hotel, Gweedore. This will include single occupancy rooms. The hotel also has an amazing restaurant with a wide range of food to choose from including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. You will also have full access to the leisure centre and gym facilities.

An Chuirt is a perfect base for our workshop. Lying in the heart of the mountains, facing Errigal Mountain.

This workshop does not include breakfast. When shooting sunrises I dont want us to be restricted and have to leave great conditions early for the sake of breakfast finishing at the hotel. Saying that I will have a bag of snacks on hand should people get hungry while we are shooting. I also know an AMAZING place for breakfast/brunch nearby our shooting locations which we will visit.

Depending on weather, you can expect to shoot 2 sunrises and 2 sunsets during the workshop with some planned day time locatioins to photograph too.

Once the workshop is full I will create a whatsapp group for us all to communicate leading up to the workshop.

We will begin the workshop at 3pm on Thursday 24th of April meeting at the hotel and it will end at 2pm on Saturday 26th. Once we meet, we will get checked into the hotel, get a quick bite to eat and head straight out photographing until sunset.

Once deposit is paid and the whatsapp group is set up, I will send a link 5/6 weeks prior to the workshop with instructions to the final payment.

Transportation

We will meet at An Chuirt Hotel at 3pm on Thursday 24th of April. From there you can park up, relax and let me take care of the driving in my very own spacious 9 seater VW Shuttle Bus.

We will aim to shoot each sunrise and sunset available to us on the workshop

Ireland isn’t exactly known for its sunny weather, but what it can be known for is the amazing light, stormy seas and moody clouds. No matter what the weather, you can be sure we are in the right part of the country to capture what ever mood is thrown at us. As the weather is so unpredictable in Ireland its impossible to set out a definite itinerary until we actually start the workshop, I will however be keeping a very very close eye on the weather throughout the day to make sure I get you in the right place, at the right time, for the right light.

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle and zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes, wellies, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)

Included/Not Included

We include two nights single occupancy hotel stay in the An Chúirt Hotel, Gweedore, transportation throughout the workshop, full tuition, amazing locations and great craic.

We do not include, flights, travel insurance, food and drink.

Not convinced?

When you book a trip with us, you get to sit back and relax. while we do all the driving. For our Irish workshops we have our very own Volkswagen 9 seater shuttle bus. The bus is a long wheel base, full air conditioned, extremely spacious and has ample USB charging points. On our tours abroad we also mostly book 9 seater buses and with groups no bigger than 5 or 6, ensures plenty of space and comfort!
