What to Expect

We will spend our entire stay in a spacious, clean and cosy B&B (Breakfast not included). We will have the entire place to ourselves with use of a small kitchenette to have cereals, toast, tea and coffee in the mornings. All rooms will be single occupancy, with en suite, TV, tea/coffee making facilities and plenty of space. The B&B is situated in the centre of Portree, the main town of the Isle of Skye, close to all shops, cafes and pubs.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. I have found in the past  that this strategy has worked very well in our favour on many occasions.

We will start and finish the Photo Tour at Glasgow airport. Please be at Glasgow airport no later than 9am on March 6th 2024. From there you will join me in a spacious 9 seater bus for the remainder of the trip. From there we will travel to Skye via Glencoe, getting a few hours shooting here, possibly even sunset depending on conditions. Once we get to Skye we will spend all four nights here at the same accommodation. On Sunday the 9th we will shoot sunrise then make our way back to Glasgow Airport via Glencoe and shoot sunset. We will arrive back to Glasgow Airport no earlier than 9pm where the tour will finish.

A deposit of €450 is required to secure your place on the trip. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 5 weeks than 5 weeks prior to the start date of the trip. I will email you a link for you to pay the balance in your own time.

Fitness level
This trip requires a moderate fitness level, The Old Man of Storr is a 45 minute moderate hike and The Fairy Pools and Quiraing are a 30 minute walk.

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle and zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes, cheap crampons,  wellies, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)

If you need some loan filters for the workshop please let me know well in advance of the trip here
