What to Expect

We will meet in Belmullet at 12 noon on Thursday, October 30th. We will spend one night in the Talbot Hotel in Belmullet. Each person will have their own room, with breakfast. When we meet, we will have a quick lunch before setting off for some pre sunset and sunset shoots. Sunset is 6.30pm. After susnet, we will head back to the hotel for a well earned dinner.

On the morning of Friday October 25th we will set off about 7.30am for sunrise, after sunrise we will go back to the hotel for breakfast and then check out of the hotel.

After checking out, we will all drive to Mulranny (45 minutes from Belmullet) and you can park your cars there and join me in my 9 seater bus as we head for some beautiful scenes and sunset on Achill Island. Once we have shot sunset I will return you to your cars and the workshop will finish.

Transport is provided throught the workshop in my own 9 seater van. The only exception is when driving from the hotel to Mulranny when we go to Achill for sunset.

Should weather in North Mayo hinder us on day 2, I will invite you to join me for a day of photographing in Connemara.

This will be a very enjoyable workshop.

A non refundable deposit of €150 is required to book your place on this workshop. Remaining balance to be paid no later than 5 weeks prior to the workshop date. Once booked, I will instruct how remaining balance can be paid.

Please note: In the event of bad weather forcing us to cancel the workshop, this is obviously out of our control but you will be issued with a credit code for the full amount paid to be used on any future workshop with BG Landscape Tours.

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle and zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc… (I do have a few spares just in case)

You will also need good walking shoes, wellies, head torch, cloths for wiping the lenses, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)

If you need some loan filters for the workshop please let me know well in advance of the trip here

Included/Not Included

We include: One night single occupancy hotel room with breakfast, transportation throughout the workshop, full tuition, amazing locations and great craic.

We do not include: flights, travel insurance, food and drink.

Why book with us?

YES YES, The rumours are true… We do have a knack of getting our groups in the right place at the right time, ensuring you capture a truly memorable shot you can cherish for the rest of your life. To us, capturing “the shot” is important but just as important is to enjoy the experience, when we get to a location take a minute to breath in the fresh air and really appreciate the views around us.

Not convinced?

When you book a trip with us, you get to sit back and relax. while we do all the driving. For our Irish workshops we have our very own Volkswagen 9 seater shuttle bus. The bus is a long wheel base, full air conditioned, extremely spacious and has ample USB charging points. On our tours abroad we also mostly book 9 seater buses and with groups no bigger than 5 or 6, ensures plenty of space and comfort!

What they said…

“Michelle Wright”

I just attended this two day photography workshop with Bernard and all I can say is it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The workshop was packed to the brim with challenges that pushed my photography skills to new heights, and Bernard’s guidance throughout the process was great.
Despite the unpredictable weather and varying light conditions, Bernard excelled at helping us navigate these challenges, turning potential frustrations into learning opportunities. His expertise and passion for photography truly inspired me, and I left feeling more confident and skilled .
The accommodations that he picked was fabulous, and the hotel provided the perfect start , the food was amazing and the staff were so nice and helpful.
Bernard also organized some unique and delightful food stops that kept us energized and very satisfied throughout the workshop.
The workshop is more than a workshop, its an experience that offers a wealth of photography knowledge, stunning views and like minded people and a bit of crack.
If you are like me sitting on the fence , over thinking going on such a trip then please take this review as your opportunity to take part in one of Bernard’s workshops, I promise you , you will not regret one minute of it. You will be brimming with all the photography insights you can absorb, alongside great food and plenty of fun!

“Alan Laighleis”

As always Bernard pays attention to his clients ensuring everyone gets his time. he will provide tips on composition and settings at every location. Ireland being as unpredictable as it is, Bernard didn’t let the weather turn the trip into a washout, instead he took us to a different location ensuring that we had a full day of shooting at a variety of locations with great coffee and lunch throughout the day. As always he’s om hand to offer advice on camera and travel kit. I highly recommend his tours and will be booking a third trip soon.

“Conor Wafer”

This was my first trip with Bernard and I haven’t say it was a brilliant experience, he is an excellent guide and his knowledge on all aspects of photography is second to none. He is very generous with his time when it comes to less experienced photographers and he makes everyone feel at ease despite their ability. Can’t wait to book again!
