What to Expect

Join us for a week of photography paradise on the incredible Senja Island, Norway. This tour will consist of seven nights, self catering shared accommodation, right in the wilderness of Senja. The house consists of 4 bedrooms and is right on the edge of a beautiful Fjord.. This workshop is limited to just 3 people. This insures we all get our own rooms in the cabin/house. The house is as cosy as you can get with warm heating and has a big wood burning stove with unlimited fuel supply. It also has one big bathroom, full cooking facilities, wifi, satellite TV and a cosy living room. The house has huge windows facing out to the Fjord. It also has a private balcony outside overlooking the Fjord.

Please be at Tromsø Airport no later than 11am on the 6th of February 2026, we will arrive back to Tromsø Airport no later than 8.00am on the 13th of February 2026, where the Tour will end.

I would highly recommend flying in one day early and staying in Tromsø the night before the tour commences, this is advised to give us an early start on the 6th for hour 3 hour drive to Senja Island

A non refundable deposit of €650 is required to secure your place on this trip. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 5 weeks prior to the start date of the trip. Once you book, I will email you my bank details to pay off the remaining balance in your own time.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. In my experience of spending time on the Senja Island, we always took it one day at a time as we were keeping tabs on the weather forecast and it worked a treat. We got some great conditions including amazing sunrises and sunsets most days aswell as 4 nights of jaw dropping northern light displays.

Sunrise this time of the year is 8.30am, Sunset is 3.30pm.

This promises to be one of the most epic of trips on my calendar for 2026, DO NOT MISS IT.

Our Accommodation
Transportation

You will be transported throughout the tour in a comfortable, spacious 4×4 starting and finishing at Tromsø airport.

Please be at Tromsø Airport no later than 11am on February 6th 2026, we will end the tour at 8.00am at Tromsø Airport on February 13th 2026

Weather

The temperature in Senja can be anything from -20 Celsius to 0 Celsius in February. From my previous trip to Senja, we got the most amazing light during the day and then to top it all off, nearly every night we were out shooting the Northern lights with some EPIC displays. It is very possible we will experience some clear night skies so there is a high chance of some Northern lights with some amazing foreground interest. This promises to be an amazing week of photography in a truly picture perfect part of the world.

Locations

Senja is truly full of magic

It’s heaven for any landscape photographer with magical nights of the Aurora, its steep Fjords towering above the sea and wildlife a plenty with plenty of reindeer, moose sea eagles, whales and dolphins.

This promises to be an arctic adventure of a lifetime

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

What they said…

“Anne Gibney”

I knew I was in for a treat on this workshop as I’ve been on a couple before with Bernard and he had extolled the beauty of Senja from the first day I met him. What I wasn’t prepared for was the magical start to our adventure! As we drove to Senja, we passed a reindeer farm and as we ooed and aawed, Bernard turned around, found the road to the farm for us to see and photograph them. Not only that, he negotiated with the owners to get us in and we got to spend time with the reindeer and feed them. There is honestly nothing this man won’t do to ensure his clients have the best experience.
Bernard’s passion for photography and for the beauty of the location is infectious. We shot great locations with great light every day, not because Bernard had a prescribed list of places to see each day, rather because he was constantly checking the weather and light conditions. He is the consummate professional and it was lovely to see the respect and esteem he holds with his fellow photographer guides when we met them out and about.
We had the best of craic too – sing songs, slagging, beers in the hot tub, snow fights, sliding down the mountain, great coffees and movies on the TV. Bernard is always good humoured and kept the tempo upbeat all the time, though at times he must have been exhausted with all the driving, teaching and generally looking out for us.
If you want the experience of a lifetime, treat yourself to one of Bernard’s workshops. You won’t regret it – you will learn so much about photography and yourself and you will make friends for life. The whole experience is addictive and let’s face it, this is probably the only addiction anyone is comfortable admitting to!!
Can’t wait for my next 2 fixes in 2024!

“Mary O Grady”

I have just returned from Senja Photo Tour with Bernard and I can honestly say the memories will remain with me forever. Our accomodation in the mountains and with a river running at the bottom of the garden was superb. It was the ideal location for the Winter wonderland of Senja and perfect for viewing the dancing Aurora in the night sky. Our transport throughout was very comfortable .The workshops are limited to small numbers which ensures everyone gets the individual attention they need with settings etc Bernard goes out of his way to make sure everyone gets the perfect shot regardless of their level of photography skills. This was my fourth workshop with Bernard and the craic as always was mighty and I was lucky once again to meet wonderful people Gillian, Colette and Mark who made the trip so enjoyable. As we were in Tromso for a few days before we met up with Bernard he arranged a fantastic workshop for us with Adrien Mauduit of Night Light Films Astrophotographer and Aurora expert whose work speaks for itself and the Aurora we witnessed that night was unforgettable..The highlight for me personally were the nights watching the Aurora dance mesmerisingly across the sky and joy and excitement of all participants and the whooping and hollering of “red to the naked eye” will remain in my brain for evermore. I have spent 10 years chasing the Aurora in Iceland and Norway and never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be lucky enough to experience anything like the days and nights we enjoyed on this tour. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

“Lauren Kilner”

I’m just back for the most insane 11 days in the arctic with Bernard! The planning that went into this trip was incredible and was worth every penny. He helped me purchase all new gear before i left to suit what I’d need for the trip and really helped me to develop my skills on the ground in the Norway. The group was such good fun that we had on this trip and I honestly did not want to come home. Don’t think twice about booking a tour with Bernard. His ability to give you an experience of a lifetime is something you cant put a price on. You’re guaranteed to walk away with increased confidence in your own skills and pictures that can be hung on your wall to last a lifetime. Bonus – He’s sound as a pound and group tours are small which allows for a more personable experience.

“Sean Kitson”

Not all that I can say that has not been already said in the previous comments but to add, after 3 workshops with him I’m now awaiting to book my 2024 adventure when it comes online (Faroe Islands) .
Keep up the great work Bernard.
