What to Expect

Join us for a week of photography paradise on the incredible Senja Island, Norway. This tour will consist of seven nights, self catering shared accommodation, right in the wilderness of Senja with no light pollution and amazing compositions on our doorstep. The house consists of 4 bedrooms. This workshop is limited to just 3 people. This insures we all get our own rooms in the cabin/house. The house is as cosy as you can get with warm heating and has a big wood burning stove with unlimited fuel supply. It also has one big bathroom and one small bathroom, full cooking facilities, wifi, satellite TV and a cosy living room. Outside in the garden we have a private hot tub and a wooden chalet with beautiful seating and an amazing fire pit which we can cook on.

Please be at Tromsø Airport no later than 11am on the 7th of February 2025, we will arrive back to Tromsø Airport no later than 8.00am on the 14th of February 2025, where the Tour will end.

I would highly recommend flying in one day early and staying in Tromsø the night before the tour commences, this is advised to give us an early start on the 7th for hour 3 hour drive to Senja Island

A non refundable deposit of €650 is required to secure your place on this trip. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 5 weeks prior to the start date of the trip. Once you book, I will email you my bank details to pay off the remaining balance in your own time.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place. In my experience of spending time on the Senja Island, we always took it one day at a time as we were keeping tabs on the weather forecast and it worked a treat. We got some great conditions including amazing sunrises and sunsets most days aswell as 4 nights of jaw dropping northern light displays.

Sunrise this time of the year is 8.30am, Sunset is 3.30pm.

This promises to be one of the most epic of trips on my calendar for 2025, DO NOT MISS IT.

Our Accommodation

This is our accommodation for the duration of the workshop. A 4 bedroom wooden house. This place is really in the Arctic wilderness with amazing compositions all around the area, including the house itself.

This promises to be a true arctic experience and is not to be missed.

This will also be my one and only Senja Island workshop in 2025 unlike previous years when I was running two each year.

Transportation

You will be transported throughout the tour in a comfortable, spacious 4×4 starting and finishing at Tromsø airport.

Please be at Tromsø Airport no later than 11am on February 7th 2025, we will end the tour at 8.00am at Tromsø Airport on February 14th 2025

Weather

The temperature in Senja can be anything from -20 Celsius to 0 Celsius in February. From my previous trip to Senja, we got the most amazing light during the day and then to top it all off, nearly every night we were out shooting the Northern lights with some EPIC displays. It is very possible we will experience some clear night skies so there is a high chance of some Northern lights with some amazing foreground interest. This promises to be an amazing week of photography in a truly picture perfect part of the world.

Locations

Senja is truly full of magic

It’s heaven for any landscape photographer with magical nights of the Aurora, its steep Fjords towering above the sea and wildlife a plenty with plenty of reindeer, moose sea eagles, whales and dolphins.

This promises to be an arctic adventure of a lifetime

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle with f2.8 minimum aperture for nights sky photography and zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes, cheap crampons, head torch, wellies, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in snow)
