What to Expect

This will be an Irish Workshop like no other…

Tory Island, less explored, less photographed but more beauty than you could ever imagine. From the moment I set foot on Tory it felt different. It was different. Life here is different, the landscape is different and the people are amazing, full of knowledge and stories.

We will travel by passenger ferry from Magheroarty Pier to Tory Island. There is ample parking at Magherorarty. From here we will board the passenger ferry to Tory. We obviously won’t have a car while there. This will be walking only. The walking isn’t hard but we could easily walk 6/7km a day along the headlands.

Once we step off the ferry we will make the short 5 minutes walk to our hotel for the weekend, The Tory Island Hotel. This is the only hotel on the Island. Each participant will have their own room and breakfast is included. The hotel also does lunch and dinner too, should we be hungry during the day/evening between shoots. There is also a small shop beside the hotel for snacks.

During the workshop, we will aim to shoot ever sunrise and sunset while on the Island.  Being in April, the weather will be changeable but matter what, mood also suits Tory so it could be a win win. Saying that, it is still Ireland so bringing clothes to suit all weathers is advised. Sunrise at this time of the year is at 6.30am and sunset 8.30pm. In between, we will also have plenty of downtime so you can catch up on sleep, eat and do some day time shooting/exploring too.

Another bit of advice I could give, if you have a bike feel free to bring it.

We will check out after sunrise and breakfast on the Sunday morning, April 13th and take the ferry to our cars at Magheroarty.

We will choose our ferry times closer to the date but we will aim to get out to the Island about midday or so. I will keep you informed of the times about two momnths before the workshop. The cost of the ferry is included in the cost of the workshop.

If you have a partner that is not into photography but likes nature and walking you can bring them along for the weekend for a small extra fee but just let me know in advance.

A non refundable deposit of €200 will be required to secure your place on this workshop. The remaining balance will have to be paid no later than 5 weeks prior to workshop. Once booked, I will send instructions on how to pay the balance at your convenience.

Please Note: In the event of extremely bad weather or rough seas that forces us to cancel the workshop. This is obviously out of our control but if this happens we will reschedule or you will be issued with a a voucher code for the full amount paid including deposit to be used on any future workshops.

Transportation

Our meeting point will be Magherroarty Pier at about 10.30am on April 11th. If time changes I will let you know in advance. You can leave your car here free of charge for the weekend. We will return at roughly 1pm on Sunday April 13th.

Feel free to bring a bike with you if you wish.

Why book with us?

YES YES, The rumours are true… We do have a knack of getting our groups in the right place at the right time, ensuring you capture a truly memorable shot you can cherish for the rest of your life. To us, capturing “the shot” is important but just as important is to enjoy the experience, when we get to a location take a minute to breath in the fresh air and really appreciate the views around us.

Not convinced?

When you book a trip with us, you get to sit back and relax. while we do all the driving. For our Irish workshops we have our very own Volkswagen 9 seater shuttle bus. The bus is a long wheel base, full air conditioned, extremely spacious and has ample USB charging points. On our tours abroad we also mostly book 9 seater buses and with groups no bigger than 5 or 6, ensures plenty of space and comfort!

Still not convinced?

Thanks to our amazing sponsors Whelan Cameras, 53 Degrees North & Formatt Hitech Camera Filters we have spare equipment like tripods, gore-tex jackets and pants and plenty of spare filter holders, filters and even shower caps to keep the camera dry during showers. All this equipment is readily available on our Irish workshops, should you need anything on an international trip, please just email us here to arrange this.
