What to Expect

We will meet at the Glenmalure Lodge in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains at 8am. We will have breakfast when we arrive if you wish. From there most of our photo spots are within walking distance. This will be a long but very enjoyable day exploring not just Wicklow’s but Ireland’s best kept secret waterfalls. We will finish the workshop about 4/4.30pm.

Half way through the day we can go back to the lodge for lunch/coffee too so I can assure you we won’t starve.

Regardless of the weather this workshop will go ahead. Even in the rain there will be plenty of shelter in the gorges. The more rain we have, the better the waterfalls will be. I would also advise bringing an umbrella also.

This workshop does involve a little bit of work to get to some of our locations. Although a basic fitness level is required, you will need to be confident on your feet and good at walking on unstable, slippy ground. You will also need to be able to duck under or walk over fallen trees in the forest too. If you have all of the above, I will get you to some of Ireland’s most amazing waterfalls.

This workshop is limited to just 3 people to ensure maximum productivity and learnings for each person. A non refundable deposit of €125 will be required to book your place on this workshop. The remaining balance of €125 will be required no later than 4 weeks prior to the workshop date. I will contact you with instructions to do this after you have booked.

Please note: A wide angle lens and polariser are essential for this workshop. If you need any advice on gear, reach out here.

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod and polariser

I would strongly recommend a wide angle lens

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes,  wellies, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)

Included/Not Included

We include full tuition, amazing locations and great craic.

If you don’t have relevant filters, fear not I will have plenty of spares for you to use for the duration of the workshop.

We do not include flights, travel insurance, food and drink.

When you book a workshop or tour with us, your booking confirmation email will automatically send you instructions on how to make use of our perfect payment plan to make the cost of the workshop or tour you have booked easier on the pocket.

Why book with us?

YES YES, The rumours are true… We do have a knack of getting our groups in the right place at the right time, ensuring you capture a truly memorable shot you can cherish for the rest of your life. To us, capturing “the shot” is important but just as important is to enjoy the experience, when we get to a location take a minute to breath in the fresh air and really appreciate the views around us.

Not convinced?

When you book a trip with us, you get to sit back and relax. while we do all the driving. For our Irish workshops we have our very own Volkswagen 9 seater shuttle bus. The bus is a long wheel base, full air conditioned, extremely spacious and has ample USB charging points. On our tours abroad we also mostly book 9 seater buses and with groups no bigger than 5 or 6, ensures plenty of space and comfort!

Still not convinced?

Thanks to our amazing sponsors Whelan Cameras, 53 Degrees North & Formatt Hitech Camera Filters we have spare equipment like tripods, gore-tex jackets and pants and plenty of spare filter holders, filters and even shower caps to keep the camera dry during showers. All this equipment is readily available on our Irish workshops, should you need anything on an international trip, please just email us here to arrange this.
