What to Expect

Slovenia is a palce of amazing natural beauty, a place where the photos just dont convince you this place is real. Well I can tell you, it is really and it is magical.

Alot of my clients would regard me a “mountain goat”, I wont disagree. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love a bit of chill and relaxation too. That’s exactly what Slovenia is,  a place to enjoy the landscapes in all their beauty and peace without the need for rushing around, panicking while looking for compositions.

Slovenia is truly spectacular, one of my favourite palces in the world. The people, the food, the dreamlike landscapes and the zen feel make it the perfect place to photograph and come home feeling like you’ve been on a holiday in paradise.

During this workshop we will spend our 4 nights in a beautiful hotel with single occupancy and breakfast each morning. We are right in the middle of Bled so close to all amenities like restaurants, cafes, shops and of course Lake Bled.

There will be NO SET itinerary for this trip as I prefer to keep a close eye on weather forecasts throughout the tour to determine our destination and make sure we have the best possible weather that may suit a specific place.

Weather

The weather in Slovenia can be cold or quite pleasant in October. I would suggest bring clothing as if it were an autumn day in Ireland or the UK.

Temperatures can easily range from 5/6 celsius in the morning/evening  to 18/19 celsius in the afternoon.

Locations

Lake Bled

St Tomas

Sv Jakob

Vintgar Gorge

Lake Bohinj

Also some amazing, lesser known personal favourites I have found while I was there…

Learnings

You will learn about shooting in manual mode, slow shutter speed, ISO settings, Aperture priority, the use of filters, why the polariser filter is so important and learning to get the best compositions (thinking outside the box)

You will also learn the use of sunrise, sunset & astro planning apps.

Equipment

You will need a DSLR with manual mode, a sturdy tripod, grad, polariser & ND filters.

I would strongly recommend a wide angle, f2.8 at least and a zoom lens (24-105 and/or 70-200) lens for this workshop.

Full frame Wide Angle: 12-24mm or 16-35mm etc…

Crop sensor Wide Angle: 10-20mm or 11-16mm etc…

You will also need good walking shoes, warm clothes, waterproof clothes and a shower cap (to put over camera in rain)

Why book with us?

YES YES, The rumours are true… We do have a knack of getting our groups in the right place at the right time, ensuring you capture a truly memorable shot you can cherish for the rest of your life. To us, capturing “the shot” is important but just as important is to enjoy the experience, when we get to a location take a minute to breath in the fresh air and really appreciate the views around us.

Not convinced?

When you book a trip with us, you get to sit back and relax. while we do all the driving. For our Irish workshops we have our very own Volkswagen 9 seater shuttle bus. The bus is a long wheel base, full air conditioned, extremely spacious and has ample USB charging points. On our tours abroad we also mostly book 9 seater buses and with groups no bigger than 5 or 6, ensures plenty of space and comfort!

Still not convinced?

Thanks to our amazing sponsors Whelan Cameras, 53 Degrees North & Formatt Hitech Camera Filters we have spare equipment like tripods, gore-tex jackets and pants and plenty of spare filter holders, filters and even shower caps to keep the camera dry during showers. All this equipment is readily available on our Irish workshops, should you need anything on an international trip, please just email us here to arrange this.
